This arrangement of Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in D major adapts the orchestral work for a reduced ensemble of solo violin, string quintet, vibraphone and marimba.
The orchestral texture is redistributed across the ensemble, with the string section retaining the core of the original writing while the mallet instruments contribute both harmonic density and colouristic detail. The arrangement preserves the characteristic contrast between lyrical passages and more rhythmically defined sections, maintaining the transparency and balance of Prokofiev’s score within a chamber setting.
