This arrangement of the first movement from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 in E-flat Major, Op. 55 “Eroica” transfers the orchestral architecture to a chamber setting for violin, violoncello, vibraphone and marimba.
The reduction preserves the structural clarity and dramatic contrasts of the original while redistributing melodic lines and harmonic weight across strings and mallet instruments. The vibraphone and marimba assume both rhythmic propulsion and harmonic grounding, while the strings retain the thematic profile and expressive contour of the movement.
Developed for Ensemble Idiochord, the arrangement explores how Beethoven’s symphonic language can be rendered within a transparent yet rhythmically precise chamber texture.
