This adaptation of Verdi’s La Traviata was created in 2023 as part of the “Opera for Children” project in cooperation with the Chinese organisation Articulus Opera and with support from the Austrian Cultural Forum in Beijing and various European cultural institutions.

The original opera was condensed into a version of approximately 40 minutes, conceived for young singers and a youth orchestra. Leonhard Waltersdorfer adapted Verdi’s musical material for a reduced orchestral setting suitable for children and adolescents, preserving the essential dramatic arc and key musical moments while ensuring performative accessibility.

The production was first presented in June 2023 at the Beijing Concert Hall and subsequently performed in August 2023 at the sold-out Shanghai Oriental Art Center. The project formed part of an ongoing international initiative aimed at introducing young audiences and performers in China to European operatic repertoire.
