This early quartet version transfers Fučík’s march to a mallet ensemble setting consisting of vibraphone, three marimbas and glockenspiel. The focus lies on clarity of articulation and balanced distribution of melodic and accompanimental material within a compact percussion texture.
The arrangement emphasises rhythmic definition and tonal contrast between the instruments, maintaining the energetic character of the original while adapting it to a purely mallet-based ensemble.
A revised quartet version and a large percussion ensemble version were subsequently developed.
