Don Mai was frequently performed as the closing piece in the joint concert programme Kernöl on the Road by Quetsch ‘n’ Vibes and Quetschklampfa.

The title is a wordplay on the Vietnamese jaw harp Dan Moi. Each of the six performers plays a jaw harp, and the piece opens with a rhythmically interwoven texture built from layered jaw harp sounds, forming a dense and pulsating sonic cloud.

From this opening gesture, the material develops within the ensemble setting, maintaining the characteristic rhythmic interplay that defines the work.
