The Austrian trio Quetsch ’n’ Vibes — Johannes Kölbl, Leonhard Waltersdorfer and Hannes Schöggl — set out to place the Styrian accordion beyond its traditional musical environment. In Kaleidoskop, the instrument is combined with vibraphone, marimba, handpans, mbira and musical saw, expanding its sonic context far beyond folk conventions.
The programme ranges from arrangements of Viennese repertoire of the Strauss era to works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Georges Bizet, alongside original compositions. Throughout the album, the Styrian accordion moves freely between styles, finding new roles within chamber, classical and contemporary settings.
Kaleidoskop presents a deliberately wide spectrum of colours and influences — a musical panorama in which regional identity and stylistic openness coexist without hierarchy.
