Alle Jahre Vibra documents a formative phase in Leonhard Waltersdorfer’s compositional work around 2015. The album brings together original vibraphone pieces alongside six Austrian and German Christmas carols arranged in a relaxed, jazz-influenced style.
The original compositions explore groove-based forms, open improvisational spaces and clear harmonic frameworks. Pieces such as Slow Times or Sticking Together reflect an early interest in sustained sound, layered rhythm and structural clarity, while shorter works like Why Not? and Song lean more strongly towards song form and improvisational interplay.
The six Christmas arrangements consciously move beyond a purely contemplative reading of the traditional repertoire. While the original melodies remain clearly recognisable, the settings open rhythmic and harmonic space for improvisation, allowing familiar material to unfold with subtle swing, harmonic colour and individual interpretation.
Taken as a whole, the album presents both a personal catalogue of early compositions and a stylistic exploration of how the vibraphone can function as a melodic, harmonic and narrative instrument within a contemporary jazz-inflected language.
