Composer
Compositions
Leonhard Waltersdorfer began composing percussion music, primarily for vibraphone, at an early age. While his focus is on solo works that encourage improvisation, he regularly composes for larger ensembles as well.
Arrangements
Waltersdorfer arranges music for a variety of instrumentations ranging from solo pieces for percussion to chamber music in open ensembles to orchestral works.
He frequently contributes to the arrangement of projects in which he is a percussionist.
Transcriptions
Another important element of Waltersdorfer’s work is the transcription of improvisations, mainly those of musicians Gary Burton and Makoto Ozone. He focuses on writing down the improvised music as accurately as possible. These transcriptions can be added to a performance repertoire as well as studied in order to deeply explore the performing musician’s style.
