This adaptation of Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro was commissioned in 2021 in the context of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Austria.
The complete opera was condensed into a version of approximately 40 minutes, conceived for young performers. Leonhard Waltersdorfer adapted Mozart’s musical material for a reduced orchestral setting suitable for children’s and youth ensembles, preserving the structural coherence and essential dramatic character of the original while ensuring performative accessibility.
The production was realised in cooperation with the Articulus Children’s Opera in China and supported by the Austrian Cultural Forum in Beijing, the Embassy of Austria in China, and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Beijing. Performances took place in Beijing and Shanghai in August 2021.
The project formed part of a broader cultural exchange initiative, presenting Austrian operatic repertoire within an international educational framework.
