This trio arrangement of Johann Strauss’ Vergnügungszug adapts the well-known polka to the instrumentation of Quetsch ‘n’ Vibes.
The characteristic motion of a fast-moving train is suggested through the use of train whistle and sandpaper blocks, which evoke the mechanical rhythm and atmosphere of a steam locomotive. Within the compact ensemble setting, the musical material is distributed transparently between Styrian accordion and mallet instruments, preserving the lively and playful character of the original.
The piece is recorded on the album Kaleidoskop by Quetsch ‘n’ Vibes.
Versions for percussion quartet and large percussion ensemble have also been developed.
