Targia was composed for Quetsch ‘n’ Vibes. At the centre of the piece stands the characteristic, slightly melancholic sound of the handpan, which provides both the harmonic and rhythmic foundation of the work.
The piece opens with a short introduction presenting the main motif on the handpan. Above this foundation, a sustained and gently unfolding theme appears on the Styrian accordion, shaped by long, held tones. The overall form follows an AABB structure.
After the first presentation of the thematic material, an improvisational section for Styrian accordion expands the texture, with the array mbira adding additional density and colour. A contrasting bridge section introduces a more driving rhythm and increased harmonic movement. Here, the bass of the Styrian accordion becomes more active, and the glockenspiel contributes additional clarity to the texture.
The return of the AABB structure leads into a reduced outro in which the handpan remains alone, closing the piece in a restrained and focused manner.
The work is recorded on the album Kaleidoskop by Quetsch ‘n’ Vibes.
