Children’s Song treats vibraphone and marimba as a single, extended sound body. Within the fixed 90° configuration, the marimba functions as a natural continuation of the vibraphone’s lower register, effectively expanding its range downward while introducing a warmer, more grounded timbre.
Rather than contrasting the two instruments, the piece integrates them into a unified texture. The writing is transparent and lyrical, centred on melodic clarity supported by a soft and closely connected bass layer.
The physical proximity of the instruments allows for seamless movement between registers, enabling the musical line to unfold without interruption.
The work forms part of the cycle 3 Pieces on 2 Instruments for 1 Player and is recorded on the album Alle Jahre Vibra.
